Bruce Springsteen, better known as “The Boss”, or to us New Yorkers/New Jerseyans, just as “Bruce!” has been recording since his first album appeared in 1973. His beginnings were on the Jersey shore, playing in Asbury Park in small venues. His songs reflect his blue-collar beginnings and often tell a story that rings a bell to the listeners. He is the epitome of rock for many baby boomers and subsequent generations.

Springsteen is perhaps best known for cuts like Born in the U.S.A. and Born to Run. His Born in the U.S.A. album appeared in 1984 and sold 15 million copies in the U.S. and is considered one of the best-selling ablums ever. I rarely put my stereo on loudly, but when Bruce came on the radio, loud it went! Many of his albums were recorded with his E Street Band, and now in 2007 he has a new album out, Magic, and has organized a busy concert schedule.

His current tour presents both previous songs and songs from his new album, Magic. Variety decribes the show as, “a two-chapter look at faith and disillusionment peppered with tales of escape and the reclamation of traditional American ideals.” (Variety review, Oct. 17, 2007.) As I write here, he’s in Los Angeles, and he’ll continue around the country, ending his tour -- where else? -- in New Jersey!
